S E E: Avedon’s Murals & Portraits xx

The Gagosian Gallery’s exhibit, Richard Avedon: Murals and Portraits, was meant to close today- lucky for you, it’s been extended to July 27!!! Mainly recognizing his name from fashion and portraits, I knew little of Avedon’s career portraying social and political figures.  I was very touched by the Allen Ginsberg series and particularly moved by his work in Vietnam. Four huge, larger than life, black and white murals are on display- one mural for each aforementioned subject, one a depiction of the provocative countercultural behavior of Andy Warhol’s Factory (as seen above) and the final, the political radicals, The Chicago Seven.  Each mural is accompanied by smaller related portraits and memorabilia, further revealing the spirt of the times this visionary portrayed. If you are in New York, I highly recommend paying a visit xx
